Fabric care
Dry clean only unless the piece says otherwise.
Storing
- Store folded in muslin rather than plastic.
- Refold along a different line every few months so zari does not crack along a permanent crease.
- Keep away from direct sunlight.
By fabric
- Silk and tissue silk: dry clean. Iron on low heat on the reverse, with a cotton cloth between the iron and any zari.
- Cotton and handloom: if the label allows washing, hand wash separately in cold water with a mild detergent and dry in the shade. Dark and block-printed colours can bleed in the first few washes.
- Georgette and organza: dry clean. These fabrics snag easily, so keep them away from jewellery clasps and rough surfaces, and steam rather than press.
- Velvet: dry clean. Never iron it directly; steam from the reverse, and store it hung or loosely rolled so the pile is not crushed.
- Jewellery: keep dry and away from perfume and lotion. Wipe with a soft cloth after wearing and store each piece in its own pouch.
